Jack McKenzie is a Media Composer, Orchestrator, Arranger and Performer from Edinburgh, currently studying a Masters of Arts in Composition for Film at the National Film and Television School in England. He often credits his maternal Grandfather’s guitar playing and original songs as his primary influence in pursuing music, along with an exposure to Traditional Folk and Classical music from an early age.
Jack has collaborated with some of the most renowned ensembles in the UK including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland. He has worked with a variety of different compositional genres including Orchestral, Chamber, Brass Band, Wind Band, Big Band, Contemporary Jazz and Scottish Traditional Folk.
Jack studied with Contemporary Electro-Acoustic Composer Timothy Cooper graduating with a First Class Bachelors of Music (With Honours) Degree from Kingston University London, majoring in Music Technology. For his Final Degree Project, Jack created a Virtual Instrument constructed from Glass, which he used to performed an original composition and demonstrate the Instrument live. It was at this time Jack took a keen interest in Instrumental Sampling, allowing him to continue to evolve as an emerging Media Composer through his own individual sound as well as develop his compositional and audio engineering skills. Jack is currently studying with Adam Lukas, an award-winning Composer at Bleeding Fingers Music.
Since graduating, Jack has worked as a Theatre Technician and Live Sound Engineer at Howden Park Centre on a variety of different genres of performances including small Comedy, Drama and Education productions to large scale Plays and Musicals. Clients have included comedians Daniel Sloss, Janey Godley and Craig Hill, to bands such as Skerryvore, Herman's Hermits, The Three Degrees and The Bay City Rollers.
As a Composer, Jack writes production music used in Film and Television advertising for Amadea Music Productions, The Music Supervisors, Velvet Green Music, Soho Music Productions and CineCave, whilst as an Orchestrator, his services have been sought out by Italian Composer and Sound Designer Alessandro Mastroianni and Clockwork Sessions, working alongside renowned Recording Engineer David Donaldson.
